World Corrosion Awareness Day 2026

On 24 April, IsiFundi had the privilege of taking part in World Corrosion Awareness Day, hosted by the Corrosion Institute of Southern Africa, at the Accolades Boutique Venue in Midrand. What a fantastic event it was.

The day brought together professionals, educators, and industry leaders, all united by a common goal: raising awareness about the often-overlooked but critical issue of corrosion. From infrastructure resilience to environmental protection, the conversations throughout the event reinforced just how crucial corrosion management is in today’s world.

One of the highlights for IsiFundi was the opportunity to engage with a broader audience through an on-air interview with Coastal Radio SA. A special thank you goes to Martin Nel for taking the time to speak with us and for creating a platform where corrosion education could be shared beyond the confines of the conference space.

Being part of these conversations also gave us the opportunity to share IsiFundi’s approach to corrosion education: one that is specifically designed for industry professionals. Our focus is on practical, accessible training that equips engineers, technicians, and decision-makers with the knowledge they need to manage corrosion in real-world environments.

Rather than purely theoretical learning, our courses are built around:

  • Real industry applications, from pipelines to protective coatings
  • Foundational understanding, including electrochemistry and corrosion mechanisms
  • Specialised skills, such as cathodic protection and inspection techniques
  • Flexible online learning, allowing professionals to upskill without disrupting their work

This approach ensures that learning translates directly into better decision-making, improved safety, and longer-lasting infrastructure.

Corrosion is often out of sight and out of mind, yet its consequences are significant—impacting safety, operational costs, and environmental sustainability. Conversations like those at World Corrosion Awareness Day are vital in bringing these issues into focus and highlighting the role that education and training play in addressing them.

At IsiFundi, we remain committed to empowering industry professionals with the tools and knowledge to move from reactive fixes to proactive corrosion management.

To everyone involved in organising and hosting the event, thank you for creating such a valuable space for dialogue and awareness.
